On the water
The Bay of Islands gets described as 'the ultimate playground for anything
aquatic'. A whole range of activities and facilities are available for
the visitor. Depending on how adventurous you feel today you can choose
from kayaking, sailing, diving, boating, fishing and the famous Hole-in-the-Rock
cruise, to swimming with dolphins, para-sailing, sky diving and kite surfing.
On land
If you rather stay on land, the Bay of Islands offers a range of coastal
and bush walks, some of the best golf courses in the country and three
boutique vineyards where you can sample top of the range cuisine and wines.
If you just feel like relaxing there are plenty of beaches to choose from.
Cultural
The Waitangi Treaty Grounds is New Zealand's most significant historic
site. It was here that the Treaty was signed between the Maori chiefs
and the British Crown. Attractions include the Treaty House, fully carved
Maori Meeting House, a large war canoe, authentic guided tours, and evening
cultural performances.
